Tourist Information Point -"Willkomen" -"Where is the toilette here, please?" As I first entered the Tourist info point, I could immediately tell, that this place was most friendly for my project. There is no wonder why. Jens Braun, the director, seemed to be direct, enthusiastic, and very supportive to my "crazy" idea, as he called it. I worked for three half working days with his crew. I gave information to the travelers about the city, and sold maps. I felt very useful assisting with English speakers. Sometimes, I was annoying for the other employees. They could feel my feeling of alienation, while we all had to share a small space behind the bar. On the other hand, Mrs. Pfaff -a temporary employee who after 23 years had to study management, quitting her original job as a textile designer because of the bankruptcy of the industry she worked for- treated me as a friend and a mother. According to a survey I did amongst the employees there, I figured out that almost all of them have not studied this job. The work though was very pleasant, and above all through this experience I learned better the German language. Now communication in a foreign place seems to be easier for me. Remarkable: Goethe's head as a lamp. |
