Asylbewerben Wohheim - Guest-House for Asylum Seekers I wore a striped blouse, and Manuela did too… For three days I observed and followed the work of Manuela Wenzel, who is the director of the house and the only employee with a long term contract, as well as, the work of the two "one euro job" employees, Svetlana and Lyda, who are immigrants coming from Ukraine and Siberia, and the work of the two German interns, Janna and Heidi. They accompany the residents of the house to the doctor, help them with bureaucracy and official authorities, guard and keep company to their kids, give lessons of the German language to the adults. People here are gathered from: mainly Nigeria but also from other African countries, ex Eastern Europe, mainly from the ex USSR, Turkey, Iran, Albania, Romania, and more. Remarkable is … the power of objects: some fancy pairs of shoes stroke me in one of the apartments, and also an advertisement depicting a garden, provided by a fancy company that produces garden-furniture, which was hanging on the wall of one of the dweller's room, as its only decoration. |
